The Music Opportunity Program youth orchestras have begun another great year of music! The Alabama Youth Symphony began rehearsals on Sunday, August 24th. The rehearsal room at Samford University was full of eager students and parents. Following a short parent meeting, the students dived into rehearsal and The Italian Girl in Algiers began to take shape. In addition to the overture by Rossini, AYS will study the Emperor Waltz by Johann Strauss II, C.W. Gluck's Iphigenia in Aulis, and more! If you know an advanced student musician (grades 7-12) that would like to join AYS this year, please contact the MOP office. On Monday, August 25th, the Birmingham String Orchestra and Birmingham Prelude Strings met for the first time this school year. These orchestras are designed for beginner to intermediate string students. Many of these students continue on to the Alabama Youth Symphony following years of study. We hope that you will join us for a concert this year! Look for our complete concert calendar coming soon! |
