Guidelines for Students and Parents
Practice is IMPERATIVE! Students should practice daily (minimum practice time required to be determined by teacher). Parents can help the student by providing a specific time and place for practice. Giving encouragement and praise for progress provides incentive to continue. Your child is special and we hope you’ll let him/her know it!
Students are expected to be fully prepared for each lesson, bringing to each lesson the equipment as specified by the teacher, Students are expected to arrive 10 minutes early in order to unpack and warm-up prior to lesson. If warm-up room is not available, at least unpack instrument and have music ready and organized with current books and assignment sheets. Parents, please consult with the teacher to determine if your presence is necessary during the lesson. If not, please be prompt to pick the student up immediately after lesson.
Keeping a regular lesson schedule is IMPORTANT. Lessons should not be missed. If a lesson must be missed, please call the teacher as soon as possible. You will be charged for any lessons not rescheduled at lease 24 hours prior to the lesson. (Exceptions will be made in case of dire emergency. However, specific information will be required.) Shared lessons must be paid for whether or not the student attends the lesson unless the teacher cancels.
Students may perform in a recital at the end of the school year. An accompanist is provided for one rehearsal and the performance. The teacher will help the student choose a recital piece. Parents can expect the teacher to give timely reviews of the student’s progress. Teachers will request parents to purchase music and will provide information about purchase of and/or ordering music. Your teacher may have other requirements which are not covered in these guidelines; your cooperation will be appreciated.
If you are purchasing an instrument, please ask your teacher for help - very often, the teacher may have a recommendation on a particular instrument that is available or a reputable seller in the area. PLEASE do not purchase an instrument without consulting your child’s teacher first.
